The association that preserves our sea

What is Ocean Citizens?

Ocean is an organization that works to preserve our marine environment. The association operates in Israel and as part of this project I characterized and redesigned the association's website.

The goals of the association

- Raising awareness of the beauty and importance of the ocean.
- Organization of beach and seabed cleaning activities.
- Support for researchers and research on the subject of the ocean and its conservation.
- Active contribution in the protection and conservation of the marine environment.

Target Audience

1. People who really like the sea and need a motivation to volunteer/donate

2. People who are not "big fans" of the sea but we want to explain/educate them to protect the sea.

3. People who already volunteer and enter the site to update/learn.

Research

I conducted qualitative and quantitative studies among anyone who loves the sea, and this are the results:

98% love the sea and enjoy various water activities

88% want to volunteer but don't do so for various reasons

Among the volunteers it was reported that the main reason for their persistence is social

Non-volunteers indicated that the main reasons for them to start volunteering are:

More publicity of volunteer operations

A site that centralizes all volunteering options in one place

A warmer and more cohesive community of volunteers

Easier access to information and registration for volunteering

Custom volunteering in various fields

Conclusions

- Love of the sea has no distinction in age/sex/marital status. There are many people who really care about the sea but most of them don't take action to help the sea.

- In order to get people to volunteer/contribute more, new and more attractive ways need to be created.
